Comm Comm UK was approached to bring our consultation expertise to this once in a lifetime heritage project. It was an immense experience for the whole team and we are proud to have been a small part of the Conservation Management Plan that will protect the shipwreck for years to come.

Our role:

  • Communications strategy for compiling a Conservation Management Plan for the Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance shipwreck

  • Exciting piece of marine history and an opportunity to develop our portfolio of delivering on historical projects.

Existing site:

  • The bottom of the Weddell Sea, east of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Scheme deliverables:

  • Working with UKHAT and their partners Historic England and the Foreign,Commonwealth and Development Office to consult with expert stakeholders, including the Shackleton Family, British Antarctic Survey, Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust and Endurance22 expedition members, to produce a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for the wreck.

Communications undertaken:

  • Liaised with numerous stakeholders and marine experts both in the UK and internationally, to consult on the management plan

  • Collated feedback and distilled expert knowledge into an easy-to digest feedback report

  • Built a fantastic public-facing website to share the story of the wreck and explain the conservation plan

  • Managed project inbox and liaised on external comms.

Status of scheme:

  • Conservation management plan presented at the Antarctic Treaty meeting in May 2024

  • The launch of the CMP generated international media interest, from as far afield as Australia, Canada and Singapore and was featured on the BBC, the Guardian and Evening Standard websites.
