Brookfield Riverside

Comm Comm UK worked with Sovereign Centros, Borough of Broxbourne and Herts County Council to pull together public consultation for both the new town centre and 1,500 homes. 800 local people came to our roadshow of events, with a lot of support shown and very few objections submitted - less than 30.

Our role:

  • Work with two other separate development teams to bring forward a masterplan for Brookfield Riverside and Garden Village.

Existing site:

  • New River Trading Estate

  • Allotments

  • Travellers’ site.

Scheme deliverables:

  • Comprehensively planned garden suburb and extended new retail, civic and business space for the Borough of Broxbourne

  • 1,500 new homes for 5,000 people, including 250 apartments for elderly

  • New civic hub and town centre facilities (shops, cafes)

  • Business facilities, leisure centre

  • Enhanced highways and transport planning, with appropriate parking provision

  • Highly sustainable design and biodiversity net gain

  • Changes to the roads and nearby golf course.

Communications undertaken:

  • Devised and led a joint consultation programme for three masterplan applications

  • Physical and online events

  • Materials were produced throughout 2022 to share information about the proposed development

  • Drop-in event at local supermarket to share plans with residents

  • Gathered and acted on feedback and concerns of local residents and stakeholders, co-ordinated responses

  • Comprehensive SCI report

  • Advised strategy to communicate the Judicial Review process.

Status of scheme:

  • Outline planning applications were granted approval in 2023

  • Further detailed design work is currently ongoing.
