Building for the future of dementia research
Last week, Jessica and I were invited by our friends at the construction company ISG to visit the site of the new UCL Institute of Neurology and Dementia Research Institute on Grays Inn Road, London.
We worked on the consultation for the planning application back in 2020/21 but haven’t been involved since the project was given the green light, and construction has been ongoing for the past few years. Wow – what an amazing place! This new centre of excellence will be a world-leading facility for researchers, doctors and neuro specialists to work together under one roof, with the aim of finding a cure for dementia in our lifetime.
The specialist equipment and facilities contained within the site – from labs, to scanning rooms, medical storage to office space presents a unique challenge and set of considerations in the construction, so it was so exciting to see it taking shape. It was a real privilege to visit this project, as our work is often focussed on the planning stage of a scheme and (once planning is granted) we step away and let the experts take over – so it was great to be able to go back and see the building taking shape.
This is what Comm Comm is so proud of – being a part of projects that help build amazing new healthcare facilities, homes and infrastructure that will help cure diseases, give people a safe home and deliver education facilities for future generations. Thanks ISG, we can’t wait to see it open!
