A week of work experience at Comm Comm UK by Joseph Michel-Cliffe

When I first walked into the office, I had little idea on what to expect. However as the week has gone on I’ve been taught many different things about planning and communications by some great people. For example, the journalism in Comm Comm UK, the political aspects which affect decision making as well as analysing competitors. Furthermore, the opportunity to sit in different types of meetings, both in person and virtual, have been beneficial for me in understanding the elements of planning and communications.

Also, I had the opportunity to visit one of Comm Comm UK’s projects in London, Project Flourish. The main thing I noticed about the project was the scale of what is projected to happen and therefore how many people are going to be positively affected by it in the long run.

My favourite piece of work that I produced was my press release for my fantasy project about building new sports facilities near Earlswood Lakes. Off the back of a conversation I had with Jake Cunliffe, I was asked to produce my own press release, inspired by the examples he showed me. This gave me the chance to showcase my writing skills and pretend to be a journalist for a day.

This week has given me an experience of what it is like to work in an office and commuting to London. It has also helped me build transferable skills which I will be able to use in all walks of life, like better communication, teamwork and organisation. I am very thankful to Comm Comm UK for allowing me this week of work experience and their effort into making it a beneficial and action-packed week for me.
