The Royal Pavilion, Aldershot
Client: R20 Advisory Ltd
Borough: Rushmoor Borough Council
Date: October-November 2023
In Autumn 2023, Comm Comm UK undertook community consultation for a change of use application for the Royal Pavilion site in Aldershot, Hampshire, to develop the site from office space to a private healthcare, diagnostics and wellbeing facility.
The site, set in 34 acres of parkland to the west of Aldershot town centre, was originally home to the Royal Pavilion, a timber lodge built in 1855 for Queen Victoria and The Royal Family, so has significant local historical importance. It is also within 400 metres of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) and has two listed buildings on the grounds.
This was a quick-turnaround project, so we flyered the local community inviting them to a public webinar to share the plans. We also met local councillors on site and made contact with local businesses to discuss conservation, employment opportunities and other benefits.
Planning permission was determined under delegated matters in early 2024. Comm Comm UK continue to work with the client on the next phase of the scheme.
